Made in Britain2021, Sotheby’s online Auction dedicated to British Art of the 20th and 21st centuries, closed yesterday.
I found very interesting the selection of British studio ceramics from Modern and Contemporary artists such as Lucie Rie, Hans Coper, Jennifer Lee, Grayson Perry among the others. What caught my eye in particular was this beautiful work by talented artist Magdalene Odundo (b. 1950).
It is a burnished and carbonised terracotta that fetched £138,600 starting from an initial estimate of £30,000-50,000.
The attention for studio ceramic is constantly increasing in the International art market.
Key factors are the tactility of the medium and the continuous evolution, making it appealing to different kinds of audiences and art collectors, also in terms of variety of aesthetics and prices.
